After frantically reading through various support treads on the subject of the completely vanished images in Media library and the front end that i discovered after updating WooCommerce with it’s infamous super alert on “update before ..this is a major update blah blah blah” (which is basically why instantly ASSUMED it was WooCommerce, who puts such notes to an update, test yoyr stuff and make sure it works without killing WP for crying out loud so we don’t have to get scared updating!!)
Anyway, most stuff i read did not apply, but the old trick to DEACTIVATE plugins came up, so i tried first to just deactivate WC – no change.
Than i tried another plugin i also updated prior to WC, a thing called “Adaptive Images for WordPress” and deactivated it – eh voila, all images are back in action everywhere.

So, not WC but this funny amateur plugin is to warn of.
It made the images so “adaptive” that no one can see them anymore, sounds a bit like some super secure credit cards, so secure not even the owner can buy anything anymore with them.

So, avoid updating or using this Adaptive Images for WordPress plugin until they can figure out how things work properly on WP!
