  • Hi Patrobles

I guess that by clicking the icon you’d like the search box to be displayed.

Your request involves a few steps that are not so easy to explain in a few words. You’ll need to create a child theme, add styles and PHP code, and finally add a jQuery script to enable the toggling functionality.

I’ve made a quick video that shows you how to perform these steps. You can access it here:

I hope this is what you’re looking for 🙂

    Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the help Maria, I really appreciate all the effort and the video.
I added the searchbox to my site http://loopr.mx/wp/ and I think it looks great!

I have a small question that isn’t regarding the display but rather the functionality of the search.
Do you know how to make it so that the wp search will also look at my categories and tags and not only post title&content?

Thanks a lot for the help though

I’ve had a look at your website and I agree, the search box looks great!

As for the search functionality, this is a core WP piece of functionality and it’s better to leave it alone. However, if you type a tag name or a category name in the search box, you’ll get a page with all posts that belong to that category or tag.

On the other hand, if you’d like to have a list of categories or tags, you could add a menu item or use widgets to do the job.

Finally, if making the search functionality more powerful is really important to you, I advise you to try a plugin. The WP.org plugins repository has quite a few:

Very best wishes with your website.
