• Hi,

I am setting up a new Storefront site and don’t like the way the footer is displayed. I have a widget in all 4 footer areas.

    1. Top Rated Products
    2. Text Area
    3. Recently Viewed Products
    4. Cart

The problem is that 3 and 4 are blank when 3. you view a product, and 4. you add a product to the cart. This is fine, but it still reserves the space so that 1 and 2 are using the left half of the footer only. The right half of the footer area is blank.

I’d like all 4 footer areas to be displayed dynamically only if there is something to show. If it is blank, I’d like it to be treated as if the footer area didn’t exist.

That way, in my footer, when a new visitor first comes to the site, he will see only footer area 1 on the left and footer area 2 on the right. 3 and 4 are blank and no space is reserved for them.

After he visits a product, then the recently viewed products widget (in footer 3) will have content and he would see footer 1 on the left 1/3, 2 in the middle 1/3, and 3 on the right 1/3 of the footer. 4 is blank and no space is reserved for it.

When a product is added to the cart, then all 4 widget areas will show because they all have content.

Is my footer area performing incorrectly? Can this be done?

  • I’m afraid this isn’t really possible as although those widget regions don’t display content, they’re not actually empty. They _do_ contain widgets, so the columns will be prepared.

Sorry about that, but to achieve this you’d need some quite advanced customisations.
