Updating from obsolete version to current

    Hello guys,

    I happened to work on a project which uses an extremely obsolete version of wordpress, the version 2.8.4.

    Now, in wordpress administration it is actually allowed to automatically update to 4.2.3, or at least wp gives me the option.

    Is it safe though, or should I update wordpress step by step?
