I am trying the ‘automatically’ method for installing pngout, but when I click that link to begin the process, I get the following error

    ___________________

From the errors, it seems that the files are not getting extracted properly, which then cascades into an error moving/renaming the file, and of course then an error adjusting permissions, and then one last error with the redirect because there has already been output (the error messages themselves). You may just need to do a manual installation.

I can’t quite figure out which binary it wants without the full error messages (I don’t see any reason you couldn’t post those here), but the basic idea is that you extract the files (with 7-zip if you’re on windows), and then copy the appropriate binary, named pngout-static, to the wp-content/ewww/ folder.

If you’re on a Mac or running Linux, they should handle opening a .tar.gz file without any additional software.

Do you have the exact link of where I need to download the pngout binaries? When clicking the ‘manually’ link as directed from the plugin, I get taken to a page with dozens of links and I’m not quite sure which one is the right one

I’m running Windows buy my dedicated box is running on Linux

My server has an Intel E3-1220 CPU inside it. When uploading the static pngout for x86_64, I still get the error that pngout is missing(from the plugin page).

Just for test purposes, I also tried the i686 version of static pngout and I still get the missing error.

I even changed the permissions of the wp-content/ewwww folder to 777 for these tests, just to be sure(they were at 755 before). Which I don’t really like to do, but thought that it was worth testing

Do you have root access to the server (is it dedicated or a VPS)?

It’s a managed dedicated box from 1and1. I can SSH into it, but don’t know if I have full root access. I would imagine that I do

what are you using to transfer the pngout-static binary to your web server?

I should note that the reason I ask, is when you use any FTP-based software/interface, you must use BIN (binary) mode for transfers, or pngout-static will get corrupted in transit.

Ahha, thank you. That seemed to solve it. Thank you a lot!
