• Hi,
I have a relatively new website and now have trouble with links from my services dropdown on http://www.mimmediation.net
The pages link from the home page, the services page and the top link works, but not the other 5 below that.

  • Did you reset your permalinks? Go to Admin page > Settings > Permalinks, then click “Save Changes”. Even though there are no changes, this should reset the permalinks.

    Yep,
    “Save Changes”didn’t help?

I’d be tempted to delete the menu and remake it from fresh.

.htaccess in your WordPress root can mess with urls so consider temporarily renaming it to take it out of service. Then reset permalinks which will make a new .htaccess. If it works now, the old one can be deleted.

Further steps include temporarily deactivating plugins and switching to the default theme. If this works, reintroduce elements one-by-one to try to identify the one that’s causing the problem.

    Hi lorro,
Thanks for your help. I have deactivated plugins which didn’t help; the links still didn’t connect.

I had some students help me set this webpage up and now they have left me. I’m not sure where to rename the .htaccess in the WordPress root?

I would try remaking the menu first as that’s an easier try and a more likely fix. If you don’t want to delete the old one, make a new one with a different name, and in Theme Options or Customise, set it as your primary menu. If it works you can delete the old menu.

To get to .htaccess you will need to do that outside of WordPress. Use your host’s file manage software, this may be in cpanel, or use ftp. .htaccess is a file in your WordPress root directory. Its a hidden file so you may have to enable hidden file viewing. After you have renamed it to take it out of service, all links will revert to WordPress defaults, ?p=123 etc., but the site should work. If so, reset Permalinks which will make a new good .htaccess. If you have any security plugins running, the settings should be reviewed as they may add to .htaccess.
