Mine works fine with the GreenTrack theme, so screw default – I’m movin’. 😛
Really – I hope someone finds a solution, but it doesn’t seem like anyone has yet…I’ll keep watching for one.
Update – I thought it worked fine, but in fact, it doesn’t…only for logged in users.
@netocury – not sure I understand what you’re experiencing. Are you saying that the name, email and url fields are not showing up when YOU go to the comments page? If so, is it giving you your name and a “logout” option?
davincim, that’s precisely my problem too.
When an unregistered user wants to leave a comment, it reads:
“You are logged in as . Logout.”
You can logout, then log in as a new person, but the default remains nameless, and allows you to post comments as the administrator.. which is a bit worrying!
Anyone have any ideas?
Hmm, I’m unable to duplicate that. When I logout, I get the WP login screen for the admin to login. But if I go back to my blog (without having logged in) I see the name, email and url fields on my comments page. I submit a comment using a different name and my comment shows up and the three fields remain visible.
So I guess the question is: is what you’re describing as registering really about just you, as the admin, being logged in? But that still leaves the question of why you’re getting a blank in the name field.

I’ll second the problem that (it seems) lots of folks are having. If I try to post a comment already logged in, it’s no problem. If I logout and try to post a comment as a non-registered user, two things happen: 1) the name/url/email fields simply aren’t there and then 2) it says “Logged in as . Logout” right above the comment box. I don’t want my readers to register to comment…so for the time I’ve just allowed anyone to post without entering a name/email. But the ‘solution’ is far from optimal because, since the name/url/email fields don’t even appear, those who comment will do so anonymously and/or just type their name at the end of a post. Not the best solution by a long shot.
I just did a clean reinstall of wordpress to no avail. Same exact problem. I’m hoping that this is something that can be fixed with a hack to the theme…but because the problem seems to persist for those who have changed themes, I worry that it could be a problem with the database. I’m SQL stupid (as well as PHP stupid) so I’m hoping someone smarter than I can (or has) figured out a fix to this…because blogs without comments just aren’t any fun at all! *grin*
Found a solution! (Rather easy, too.) Go here: http://www.davejenbarnes.com/wordpress/?p=320 and follow the directions given by Lea (who deserves a special place in heaven for this fix). You have to modify two bits of code…but now my fields work and folks can comment without having to register (or post anonymously).
Yeah – that fix worked for me, but only using the “GreenTrack” theme. With “default”, it’s still the same issue.
I’m having the exact same problem. I tried the fix as listed above, but it didn’t help.
The odd thing is I pre-built my theme (http://wptest.dbmini.us) and comments work fine. I installed into the root following the directions to the letter, copied over the theme and they haven’t worked yet. Is there another fix that I can’t seem to find?
I think I found the problem: there was an empty user in the database, perhaps as a consequence of migrating from MT. With that, besides trying to logout, WP recognized the empty user as a real user. I simple remove the empty user from my DB and the email and name fields appeared.
