just go into Appearance in Settings on the admin page, and reset it back to your desire theme. 10 to one it is just fine.
Not there. I think I renamed the theme folder that I used to default. That mean it’s gone forever?
If so, can this be restored from a “Database Backup”?
Hi
If you changed the name of your custom theme folder to default, then when you upgraded, WP erased the existing default folder and copied in the actual default theme as part of the upgrade. There are only two possible folder names in the whole world that can cause that to happen, default and classic. Bad luck, sorry.
You can not restore the theme folder from a database backup because the theme is a bunch of files, not tables in a database. What you can do is contact your webhosting company and ask them if they have a backup from yesterday of your website. Most hosts make daily backups. You don’t want the entire site restored, you just want the contents of that one them folder so you can overwrite the new default theme that WP created. If you get it back, change the name of the folder to something else.
Its a great idea to keep a copy of your theme on your own computer too, for exactly this reason.
Hoping you can get it back from your webhost…
The exact same thing just happened to me. Wow — This is a very big problem with the auto-upgrade. We need to have a way to save custom themes “as” when we make changes to the default.

thats called renaming the directory.
WOW! I LOVE GoDaddy.com!!! There was a restore feature in my hosting control panel with an image of my files from yesterday. I just clicked TWO buttons and fixed a month’s worth of work that I lost during the upgrade!!!
To be clear, if I simply rename the directory from “Default” to something else, will that prevent this from happening again? Will any links be broken in my site if I do that? Will anything else need to be reconfigured?
Thanks,
Ryan
you will need to re-chose the theme in your admin panel, and since youve just removed the chosen theme thats also the defualt theme, the site will be blank until you re-pick that theme.
In this case, I recommend copying the contents to a new directory, and picking the new theme.

Yes.

No, but you will need to select the theme again in your blog admin once you rename it.
Will anything else need to be reconfigured?
No. But, do always back-up before upgrading…even using the auto-upgrade feature. See the following for details:
