The plugin isn’t working, I’m still getting as many “remove query strings” errors in GTmetrix. I read that I have to OK write permissions for htacess, but there are three of them: owner permissions, group permissions and public permissions. Which one of these do I need to turn on? Is this just during activation or do I need to leave it on? I’m concerned about a security vulnerability if I leave these on. My URL is http://blog.rane.com/.

jeffdavies58, You need to turn on all of 3 permissions (owner permissions, group permissions and public permissions). .htaccess file should have permissions 777 (Read, Write and Execute) when you activate the plugin or make any changes in the settings (under plugin options page).

You don’t need to leave the write permissions On (always) so you can turn it off once you’re done.
