I’m also interested in this. Specifically I’d like WordPress to email the commenter on my behalf when I reply to their comment, using a customisable template like the one used for the email links.
Alternatively, anyone know of any other plugin that can do this?

No, this plugin does not automatically send an email. You have to cut and past your comment into the email that pops up when you click on the button to send the person an email. I was using the Subscribe to Comments Reloaded plugin that automatically sent them until it stopped working for me in April.
Other than the cut and paste deal, the plugin works for what I need at this time.
Comment Email Reply is a plugin I use.
