I know you say you are running the same settings on a different site but are you using authentication in smtp? Gmail needs SSL connnection to send mail out and if it is being rejected, it’s possible it’s coming from that?
Thanks for the response. Yes I’m using smtp autehntication and ssl. Is it possible that godaddy is preventing email forwarding? Maybe it’s a feature that requires payment? I don’t have much experience with them, but so far they are a real pain. I never had this issue with other hosts. Or perhaps its a settings in a file that I am unaware of?
I also tried other mail plugins with smtp, such as easy smtp, but still no luck with that.
You simply need to setup and outgoing email with GD. Ask them about this. How various hosts handle outgoing email is a part of their paid services.
Ok, I’ll have to get the client to call godaddy about that, unfortunately I can’t do this myself, since I lack authentication to use support. Another reason GD is giving me a headache. Other services let you create maintenance accounts through which you can use support. Anyways, thanks for the help.

Any host would require that you are the account holder or have the proper credentials.
Hey, it’s been a while, hopefully some of you still see this. So I finally got some authentication info from the client and talked to godaddy support. According to them smtp features should be active and I should be able to use them.
I also got the smtp settings from them directly, so that should be correct, but I still can’t send email via smtp. As I mentioned before, I tested a gmail account on a separate WordPress website which worked fine, and used the exact same settings on this WordPress site, and it failed.
This is giving me a headache. It seems the WordPress site itself is causing issues. Is there a setting in a file that needs to be tweaked? Can someone point me in the right direction?
Another note, the website uses a theme created by someone else, so I’m not sure what conventions they used for setting this up.
Quick update, I tried a different theme, and got the same result, so the theme itself doesn’t seem to be the issue.
