It should work with all type of permalink settings.
What does not working means? does not show message system or links not working or some links are broken or ……?
I have tested in many custom permalink settings and it is working perfectly.
can you give me more info about this? eg. Plugin+wordpress version, Permalink structure etc.

Front End PM Version 3.3
qTranslate-X Version 3.3
WordPress Version 4.2.2
Front End PM auto created a Page that I named PM, and where I have your shortcode: [front-end-pm]
When I set my Permalinks as this:
Post name http://www.website.com/wp/sample-post/
01. I browse the page PM at:
http://www.website.com/wp/fr/pm/
I can see the form and options. OK.
02. When I click on New Message… then I am taken to the FrontPage without any message being created.
When I set my Permalinks as this:
Default http://www.website.com/wp/?p=123
01. I browse the page PM at:
http://www.website.com/wp/?page_id=353&lang=fr
I can see the form and options. All behaves OK as supposed.

I have tested with your same configuration (wp+fep+qtranslate-x) but could not reproduce this.

I have changed your message page slug from “pm” to “pmtest”. You can change it to anything but two letter word. for two letter word (pm), your translate plugin were confused that is that a word for language or anything else and strip that slug.

I really like this plugin so far, it works better than any other free ones I tried. However, I am having an issue with sending attachments. It allows me to go to my folders on pc and select an image, but it does not upload it to the actual site.
I assume this is how you share images via private messages. Perhaps this would be done easier if the media upload function from post editor was added instead?
