Plugin conflict – all comments marked as spam

    Since installing the BD plugin on a website in April, all comments entered on the site – ham and spam – are marked as spam.

    I have tested for a theme conflict as per your instructions elsewhere and there isn’t one.

    If I deactivate all plugins and submit a comment it is marked as Pending. If I just activate BD and do the same, the comment is classed as spam.

    If I reactivate all plugins except BD, comments are submitted OK. Add in BD, all ham comments are spammed.

    I have verified the problem on a live site using Akismet and an identical dev site which does not.

    On the live site, the comment history for a ham comment is:
    58 mins ago – Comment status was changed to spam
    58 mins ago – Akismet cleared this comment.

    After submitting a debug log to Akismet support, they have said “Akismet is correctly identifying spam vs ham. Are you running a recaptcha plugin as well? From past experience I know that some recaptcha plugins don’t play nicely with Akismet.”

    As stated however, the problem also occurs on a site not running Akismet.

    Hi zimbo000,

    Sorry that you ran into issues here!

    Let’s start with some questions:
    – What version of BD are you running?
    – What version of WP?
    – Are you using the reCAPTCHA option for BD?
    – Which comments are the ones getting spammed out? On ALL pages or certain pages relating to BD (with shortcodes)?
    – What is the content of the comments?

    It’s odd that BD would affect Akismet in this way, but we do include a reCAPTCHA library as part of the package, so it’s possible that the library and Akismet aren’t getting along somehow…

    – What version of BD are you running? Live site is 3.5.5, dev site is 3.6.5: problem happens on both

    – What version of WP? Both are 4.2.2

    – Are you using the reCAPTCHA option for BD? Yes, all options ticked, API keys in place

    – Which comments are the ones getting spammed out? On ALL pages or certain pages relating to BD (with shortcodes)? All pages except BD related: the ham comments would be always on posts though; it is a news website and readers post comments on a post/story. No one can post a comment on a BD page because it’s turned off in BD admin – e.g. http://www.henleyherald.com/business/business-directory/22024/tgs-taylorcocks/
    i.e. Include comment form on listing pages? is not ticked.

    – What is the content of the comments? In testing out where the problems lie, I have been submitting very simple comments eg. from John, at john@gmail.com, content ‘A test’ – this got classed as spam.

    re. your last paragraph – please note my last statement:

    Yes, I meant reCAPTCHA above when I typed Akismet. Sorry.
