• I tried to upgrade automatically which up to this point I have been able to do with no problems for the last few upgrades. On this update I get this message as it starts – “Unpacking the core update” – but then the browser says “done” on the bottom of the page and it stops. I am not a code person and if I tried to do this manually I would probably lose all my changes that I’ve added to my header.php and footer.php and sidebar.php files. What do I do now? Wait for 2.7.2 to fix this problem?

  • Always backup both your WordPress files and database (download to your home computer) before attempting an upgrade.

Disable the WordPress automatic upgrade plugin, it conflicts with 2.7.

    Hi

all of the content that you change in WP is in the wp-content folder – themes and plugins. So back that folder up and store the backup outside of the WP folder tree, or on your personal computer. Then you can do a manual 2.7.1 install.

If you are using a theme other than the default or classic theme, the WP upload is not going to overwrite any of your theme files. But do back up first.

If once you’ve deactivated the plugin and there is still an issue, check this page to see if there is an issue between the WordPress update and your host.

Thanks for the info. It seemed to work fine. The only thing is an issue with Filezilla. It seems FZ disconnects from the server before finishing the upload or download. I’m not sure but I tried to get on my dashboard and check everything out and it says I have the latest version of WP so it probably has been downloaded completely but the cache is having trouble keeping up to the reporting.

    Hi

With some webhosts/servers its hard to get a steady connection.

Usually Filezilla remembers where you are at in the transfer process. So reconnect when you get disconnected. make sure the the Queue window is open, then right click and click on Process Queue. that will restart the transfers. If you have to restart a few times, well that’s how it goes.
