• Do I need to redirect from http to https when everything seems to be fine?

    Situation:
    – I added SSL to my site
    – I changed http to https in the general settings of WP
    – I added the ‘new’ https site to Google Searchconsole (FKA Google Webmaster Tools) and added the sitemap again
    – I keep the ‘old’ site in Google Searchconsole for a while
    – I set my site in Cloudflare to use strict SSL

Is this enough to keep or get back my ranking/SEO?
I came accross a lot of optional .htaccess redirecting code, but I don’t know if that’s necessary. If added I always got an error (endlesss redirect loop).

  • When you open your website, is it showing “https://” at the start?

Yes. This is my site: http://www.jacktummers.nl

I also checked some url’s with this tool (http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/), and that seems to be ok too:

    Checked link: http://www.jacktummers.nl/matt-elliott-only-m
    yocardial-infarction-can-break-your-heart/

Type of redirect: 301 Moved Permanently

    Redirected to: https://www.jacktummers.nl/matt-elliott-only-
    myocardial-infarction-can-break-your-heart/

Does that look ok to you?

I also wonder if I have to add something else to the Google webmaster tools, because with the new sitemap I added yesterday, currently no pages are indexed yet and my site has a pagerank of ‘unranked’ (which was 4).

You website now has a PR4. Don’t worry about the Gogole Sitemap as it may take some time to appear.

Your https seems to be working fine.

Is there anything else you need help with?

Thanks for letting me know, but are sure? It says unranked in Firefox and Chrome here. (???)

Dear I am sure. I have checked it through Chome pagerank extention and through a tools as well.

Visit this URL to check it yourself.

Yes I know 😉 but that doesn’t check the https, only http.
But perhaps I need to wait a few days and see what happens.

What you have to wait for?

    (@moxie)

Waiting for Google to fix things? 😉

I just don’t understand. I thought I had done everything to make a smooth transition from http to https, but it keeps saying unranked and pages in the Google Search Console are indexed very slowly.

By the way, I added all 4 versions of my site to the Google Search Console: http and https, and with and without WWW.

You are over stressing. Just sit back and relax. Things will take time.
Wait for 4-5 days and you will see everything OK.
There is nothing else required to done at your end. Your PR 4 is OK.

And by the way, Google has stopped giving PR the same value. It is no more a ranking factor as it used to be.
Your domain has low authority and almost no traffic so whether your PR is visible or not, it is hardly going to make any practical difference.

You should focus more on making content and targeting your audience/customers instead of making these minor tweaks.

    I hope you understand.

    Ok. Thanks for explaining.
