• I have a WordPress Multisite on WP 4.2.2, SEO Yoast is version 2.2.1, and using MU Domain Mapping (v0.5.5.1) to map domains.

I am mapping a domain name to one of my sites and it is set as Primary. Initially, the XML sitemaps produced are displaying the correct URLs – but then after a 2-3 days (without making any changes/updates to anything: posts, pages, plugins, etc), the XML sitemaps produced start displaying the original Multisite sub-domain link (no longer the mapped domain name).

This in turn creates error in Google Webmasters since the URLs being received from the sitemaps are no longer correct.

If I then login to disable the XML Sitemaps that SEO Yoast produces, then enable them again, the XML Sitemaps correct themselves back to the mapped domain URL …until 2-3 days later when the entire process repeats.

Any ideas how to fix this?? Is this a bug in the plugin?

  • Experiencing the same issue and put in a question a few weeks back that never got answered.

If it helps I have a script that I run to check which sites have sitemaps that are incorrect. I haven’t spent much time on the issue but another xml sitemap plugin had run into this issue and fixed it – commercial one though and the fix was never posted on their support channel.

The script – run at your own risk but I’ve never had an issues with it. https://www.dropbox.com/s/t38odjjcx0f2ijw/checksitemaps.txt?dl=0

And one more update: https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/1780 .. apparently this is not a bug, but something that will hopefully be implemented in a future update?

So I found this temporary fix by Vijay Padhariya:
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/issue-with-transient-in-wp-4-and-wp-seo-163?replies=5

I’ve tested it and have been checking my XML sitemaps for the past 5 days and it seems to have worked.

Just as he says, you have to remember to apply the fix every time you update the SEO Yoast plugin.

I just wish the guys over at Yoast would release a fix for this already instead of us having to always make a change to their PHP file.

Thanks! Great find. I updated this morning and just random sampling sites that had issues previously seem to be corrected.

Having the same problem with Yoast SEO and MU Domain Mappings.

Going to take a look at Vijay’s patch.

What’s up with Yoast’s attitude (not the first time I’ve reported a problem .. AND the solution … to them, only to get a rather supercilious “Yes, we know” response. If you know, Yoast, why is there no fix for months?).
