Reading the Publicize instructions, details are given on how to get your theme to use the feature on other post types. With my theme not doing this, I assumed it would therefore only support the main post format but that’s not the case – it shared when I published an “aside” format post. Bearing in mind these don’t have titles and, as a quick thing, often don’t come with a excerpt, I found Publicize posting to Twitter a URL and nothing else. Personally, I’d like it not to do anything with an aside and don’t want to have to remember to switch it off each time.

Is it the case that the “out of the box” additional post formats, such as asides, are supported? If so, surely an aside needs to be treated differently, certainly for Tweets? Lastly, is there a way to switch Publicize off for a particular post type?

    Thanks,
    David.

Custom Post Types and Post Formats
    are a bit different.

Your “aside” posts are still posts; they just use a different format. Custom Post Types, on the other end, are separated from posts and pages; they’re a new type of content on your site.

Jetpack’s Publicize module pushes updates for each one of your posts, regardless of their post format. In the past, Publicize would automatically grab the first few words of the post content when there was no title, but that doesn’t seem to happen anymore. That’s a bug!

We’ll get if fixed and I’ll get back to you as soon as it’s done!

Ah, yes, apologies, my confusion there. I understand.

However, I’d still, ideally, like to switch Publicize off for asides. Is there a way, via some custom code, to do this?

    David.

That’s not possible at the moment, but that’s an option we’d like to add to Jetpack in the future.
You can follow our progress about this here:

I’ll also post here as soon as I have some news!

    Thanks for that Jeremy.
