• Hey everyone!

I was interested in using WordPress as the underlying ‘engine’ for a blog/news on a website.

However I was wondering how you go about (and what’s the best practice) of having a single login for users.

So if a user logs into the site, he/she can post via wordpress, access a forum where he/she is logged in already and all the stuff on the site is customized for them.

So basically, can you use the wordpress user db for the rest of the site? Or is it better practice to do it another way, so users can seamlessly navigate through the site once they’ve logged in.

  • I have done it before using SMF and WordPress. At the SMF forum they call it “bridging”, and yes, it can be done. There’s an extensive tutorial at the SMF forum where you can learn how to do it.

Thanks. I’ll give that a shot.

Is that how most major sites go about it? Or do they actually build their blog/forum from ground up.

    Like http://www.gamespot.com for example.
