Rename files on upload

We are using download-monitor to create a library of .pdf documents. It is working well for us. it tracks downloads and creates custom post types pages with a link to the download, we can add lots of meta and put the documents in categories etc…
What it doesn’t do is rename uploads based on user input. I’m looking to add this functionality probably using gravity forms or Advanced Custom Fields.
We also would like to merge all this into a really simple front end user interface. Is this something you can help us with?
