  • Hey @jacobalund,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Just to be clear, do you mean that upon importing into Outlook, Outlook splits your imported events into another calendar within Outlook?

If so, then I’m unfortunately not sure why this would be happening – there isn’t anything within our export files that would specifically say “Import all this into a new calendar”, so I’m curious if this is somehow related to your specific Outlook settings? Are there settings you can figure within Outlook related to how imports are handled? If so, does changing these settings change any of this behavior for you?

    Thank you,
    George

Yes, that is what I mean. Here is a screenshot of it:

The calendar I have marked with red is the one I have imported from the plugin. As you can see, it creates a new calendar instead of just adding the event into my own existing calendar. The calendar I have marked with red is called “Other calendars” and the one in the top is my own called “My Calendar”. The ones in the middle are shared calendars with my co-workers.

This is not only happening for me, but for everyone who uses our event-system on our website. Therefore, it is not just because of the settings I am using in Outlook.

    Hi JacobALund,

Sorry, that screenshot wasn’t coming through for me here, but I get what you’re saying. George is absolutely correct here that there is nothing in the exported .ics file that would pre-determine which calendar an event (or group of events) is imported to. It is likely that there is a default calendar in Outlook that is set to receive imported events by default or that the calendar importing the events is one that is currently selected.

I wish I had more of a solution for you here, but it does sound like something on the Outlook side of things, unless we can see some other indication that the .ics file is doing something specifically.

    Cheers!

    Thank you for your answer.

    I noticed you saying this:
“It is likely that there is a default calendar in Outlook that is set to receive imported events by default”

The problem is that there is no calendar within Outlook that receives the imported events – not even the default calendar. Instead, it creates a new calendar and names it after the name of my site. And I would like it to import into an existing calendar – just to be clear 

    Howdy Jacob,

I am sorry. There was some confusion in our past responses.

That is a known issue. This free plugin fixes it. https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar-outlook-import-fix/ However, as noted by the plugin author in FAQ activating that plugin will fix things in Outlook, but break them in other calendar applications like Apple’s. Without that plugin activated, events are compatible with both Apple and Outlook. However, in Outlook you have to open the application and click Import, then find the ICS file and make sure not to import it into a new calendar. This is obviously not a great solution as you can no longer just click open on an .ics file, but it’s the best available compromise.

We are investigating this to see if there is any way to get things compatible with all cal applications. In the mean time though, there is your two options.

    Cheers!
    – Brook
