    Hello everybody,

i have a strange problem with taxes.

In the settings i defined to include tax only when the products are being shipped to any address in Hawaii state.

But when i’m on checkout as guest buyer the tax is not being displayed. However, when i try to buy something as registered and logged in buyer everything works ok.

Any ideas how to solve this?

    Regards,

    Veljko

  • It sounds like WooCommerce does not know the guest buyer’s shipping address.

Could you post screenshots of your Admin page > WooCommerce > Settings > General tab and also Tax tab: Tax Options and Standard rates pages.

    Absolutely, here they are:

    – Tax options: http://i.imgur.com/nBjTeiY.png
    – Tax standard rates: http://i.imgur.com/mueYkBe.png

To me it seems like the ajax that should fired after the state selection does not function properly, but check out the screenshots and let me know what you think.

    Thank you

It seems that i found what seemed to be the problem. The ajax is adding the tax after you enter the zip code.

If you just enter state it won’t add it. Since our customer must enter proper zip code, this is pretty much ok.

    Thanks for your time.

I note you “Sell to all countries” and calculate tax based on “Customer Shipping address”, so WooCommerce won’t know what the tax is until the customer enters their shipping address. Quite late in the buying process. Presumably if I buy from you (UK) you won’t charge me tax. There is no line in the standard rates table to cover the UK. So charging no tax is correct for a guest, until/if they enter a shipping address in Hawaii. But if you are logged in, WooCommerce knows that you live in Hawaii and shows tax appropriately. So Hawaii customers may be aggrieved to see tax added at the last minute. Consider setting the “Price Display suffix” to “excludes tax (Hawaii customers only)”.

The trick is that we have to pay taxes if the ordered products stay on Hawaii.

If we export, we don’t have to pay the tax, so there’s no need for charging that to our clients.

We will, however, consider your advice.

    Thank you
