Crashed midway through updating, needs reinstalling, need help!

    My computer crashed the other day midway through upgrading my WordPress site to the latest version. I think it was on version 4.2.1 beforehand, but I’m not certain about that – it might have been 4.2 or 4.1.5

    The login to the site is at http://www.newbattle.org.uk/wordpress/wp-login.php

    Installation is the bit I feel least confident about. I know I might need to reinstall the whole installation, but I could really do with someone who knows what they’re talking about to give me a bit of advice about what to do here, to ensure I don’t make things any worse.

    Obviously if there’s any way I can just update one or two files rather than have to reinstall the whole lot, that would be great too

    Do you have FTP access to your site? In that case you case you can upload the files by FTP and overwrite the current files.

    Please do make a backup of your files before uploading.

    I do have FTP access, yes.

    But when I say I am least confident about installation, that means I don’t really know which files are the ones I actually need to upload.

    Is it *all* of the files from the zipped 4.2.2 download at https://wordpress.org/download/?

    That is correct.

    Please first download and backup your current files.

    The WordPress zip file will unpack to a folder called wordpress. Select the contents of this folder.

    In your FTP application navigate to the folder / location your WordPress files are installed.
    Transfer the unpacked contents of the zip to this location and overwrite the files.

    Take your time, don’t rush yourself.

    Brilliant, thank you for taking the time to explain that.

    It’s what I was thinking I would do anyway, but it gives me so much confidence hearing it confirmed by somebody who knows what they are talking about!

    Currently backing everything up – will give it a go when that’s complete
