WordPress blog or site for selling

Hey

I’ve created a couple of sites with WordPress, one is hosted by GoDaddy and the other is a blog/site that is just purchased via WordPress. I’m not a webdesigner, but I try to figure things out as I go along and have got by so far.
One of the sites does sell items, but I used a Paypal link/button for this
Now, a friend would like me to help produce a site for selling his art work, and I think that means either linking to paypal, or producing an e-commerce/e-shop site.
My question is whether I can produce an e-commerce site by using a WordPress blog template and some plug-ins or whether I have to create a full/proper/hosted site?
