• I’ve been using Imsanity for about two years now. Sometimes uploading images in a page or post. Sometimes done via Media Library. The plugin has always done a really good job.

After upgrading to WordPress 4.2.2 (coming from 4.1.1), I’ve noticed that images are not longer reduced in resolution if uploaded via Media Library. Uploading in a page or post still works. The settings are as listed below:

    • Page/Post: 1200 x 1200
    • Media Library: 1200 x 1200
    • Elsewhere: 0 x 0

Interestingly enough I’ve noticed that changing the settings for Elsewhere from 0 x 0 to 1200 x 1200, the uploading via Media Library lead to the expected resolution reduction (although the corresponding setting is NOT changed). So using

    • Page/Post: 1200 x 1200
    • Media Library: 1200 x 1200
    • Elsewhere: 1200 x 1200

currently solves my problem. Nevertheless this is not the inteded behaviour of the plugin.

Jason, I’d guess that the WordPress team has changed something in the Media Library code of 4.2.2 so that the plugin doesn’t recognize any longer that an upload is done via Media Library. Just my two cents.

  • Thanks, unfortunately there’s no “official” way to determine where the images are coming from, so I’ve just made assumptions based on what I can see in my own WordPress installation. Apparently something has changed again so I’ll see what I can do.

It’s annoying that there is no official way to figure this out from the API, but perhaps I’ll figure something out. Thanks for the report.

    Any progress on this Jason?

I’ve been using https://wordpress.org/plugins/resize-images-before-upload/ on loads of sites and realise it’s not been working for a while now (since WP 3.9) so I need to find an alternative. Love the look of yours, but only working for Pages/Posts and not the Media Library. (WP 4.3.1 Imsanity 2.3.6)

Can’t use it as a replacement until this is fixed unfortunately.

UPDATE: It does work, with a tweak to settings. See my comment here
