I installed this plugin months ago and overall I am happy with it. However, as I have been running a bunch of test for the speed of my site, all tests give me low ratings because of the file sizes on the pages(thumbnails in my case). They all tell me that I can save a lot if I optimize the images. I also have to mention that I use MAXCDN. So every time I get the results of the reports the image links are from my pull zone. I contacted them but they told me that they honor whatever the server gives them. Maybe I misunderstood how this plugin works.
In each post I use as a thumbnail the picture I use for the posts as well (large size 800 px width). The thumbnail is about 300px so I guess the browser must adjust the size.
I am about to start using separate resized images for thumbnails but before that, is there something I am doing wrong with this plugin? Isn’t it should be doing this for me?

EWWW does not create any additional sizes for you, it simply optimizes the ones that you have. It is up to you to ensure that you are using the appropriate sized images on your site, so what you are about to start doing is the appropriate way to do it.

However, there ARE a couple plugins that will do that for you (although I still recommend choosing the right sizes yourself if possible): Hammy and Adaptive Images.
