    G’day singer74,

You need to load the KML file onto a website somewhere for Google Maps to see it. Google Maps loads the KML file into its server to parse it before sending a map layer to the browser, so it needs to find the map somewhere — and it can’t see your local server.

An easy way to do this without a web server is to put it into the Public folder of a DropBox account and get the share link to the file. e.g. that example map can be referenced here:

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26305751/maps/example-toronto.kml

NB: I advise you to name the file with .kml, not .KML — I don’t know what Google will make of the uppercase name, but the file extension should be lowercase.

    cheers,
    Ross
