Please get in touch with the payment-gateway providers at Merchant E-Solutions (http://developer.merchante-solutions.com/app-center/wordpress-paymentgateway.html) I haven’t been able to update my client’s version of wp-ecommerce since version v3.8.9.5!!!

For months I’d been calling them repeatedly to ask what the holdup on their end was. Finally got escalated to someone with a (possible) clue who said they need you to certify your updates with them (whatever that even means) before they’ll accept payments.

This was evidently ok with the client’s previous site dev. She told me there were always long delays with this payment provider. This might have been ok in years gone by but just a 0-day exploit (or in this case a months-and-months exploit) away from a serious security breach.

I think maybe if you talk to them you can get them to either modify their policies, publish a generic api, or otherwise get with the program. (For the record my client insists they’re the only solution their bank supports.)

    Thanks!

    Hi David,

We’re more than happy to work with any payment gateway that reaches out directly, but it’s not sustainable for us to reach out to any of them individually. If you want to request that Merchant E-Solutions reaches out to us, we’re more than happy to work with them. We’ve done similar with others (PayPal, Amazon, etc.) in the past.

As far as the plugin they have – the plugin they have built is actually doing it wrong -as they are suggesting you add the merchant gateway file directly to the core plugin, which is a no-no, as it will be overwritten with updates. Like I said, we’re happy to partner with them on building it properly, but we’ll need them to connect and cooperate with us.

    Thanks!

    Thanks, Justin.

I agree it should be their responsibility to comply with your APIs rather than the reverse, and I apologize for falling for their spin. If they think really need to add their code to your core, and then further expect you to “certify” your updates with them then, yeah, they’re doing it wrong.

I’ll mention this in a follow-up with Merchant E-Solutions but I’ll also add it to my case to the client to switch to a more responsible gateway provider.

Great, thanks David! We’ll do our best to connect with them as well, but the ball is definitely in their court. Hope all goes well with your client!
