    Hi

I have UpdraftPlus 1.9.64 installed. I have a value of 25MB in the expert settings in order to be able to send the backup to email. However, this doesn’t seem to be working. I am getting message

Warning: backup_2015-04-27-0730_XXXX-others8.zip: This backup archive is 41.3 Mb in size – the attempt to send this via email is likely to fail (few email servers allow attachments of this size). If so, you should switch to using a different remote storage method.

    (XXXX being my website).

Furthermore, I went to expert settings and tried to change the value from 25MB to 20MB, saved the settings, came back to look at it, and noted that it was still 25MB.

    Here is the log extract:

    Hi rwdomainmonster,

The boundary for splitting of backups across multiple zips can only happen on a file boundary. So, if 24Mb have so far been put into a zip, and the next file is 17Mb, then after putting that one in, the zip file will be 41Mb, then the split will happen at that point. The setting can’t guarantee that you’ll not get any zip files bigger than the setting.

    Best wishes,
    David

Thanks. So I need to reduce the value at which the zip file should be split?

    I checked updraftplus.php and discovered

// The smallest value (in megabytes) that the “split zip files at” setting is allowed to be set to
    if (!defined(‘UPDRAFTPLUS_SPLIT_MIN’)) define(‘UPDRAFTPLUS_SPLIT_MIN’, 25);

Given that 25MB is the maximum attachment size for gmail, and the functionality means there’s a risk of creating a >25MB attachment (as per my original problem) wouldn’t it be better to reduce this minimum?

I’ve edited my copy of updraftplus.php and reduced the value but I need to remember to do this with every new version which is not ideal.

    Hi,

Notice that in the line of code quoted, the value is only defined if not already defined. So, you can over-ride it by defining it first in your wp-config.php.

    Best wishes,
    David

Doh! Of course I can. Thanks. Am marking this as resolved.
