Folks, why in the world did you delete TITLE tag insertion/flexibility in the link dialog box?

More important, how can we get it back?

The solution to your problem, although a temporary one, has been given in the post #27 of that thread : https://wordpress.org/support/topic/editor-add-link-function-no-longer-has-link-title-but-link-text-instead?replies=29

The longer explanation has been given in the post #8 of that thread.

PCVIP, good point, here wordpress decided against the majority. I would invite you to state your answer in the proper place, where this is read, https://wordpress.org/support/topic/insertedit-link-missing-title-field?replies=16 🙂

pcvip, the title attribute causes a real accessibility problem. In other words, it causes major issues for some people. If you want your website to be as inclusive as possible, I would embrace the changes. Seriously, in the long run this is a no-brainer. A win-win. A step forward in the right direction. Obviously you may disagree, I can understand your frustration but it’s the right thing to do.

SEO is all about people at the end of the day. The more people that like and can use your website, the better. I’m sure someone will write a plugin to reintroduce the title attribute, but that would be a big step back for accessibility and SEO imho.

Rich, I want my site to be as inclusive … AS I WANT IT TO BE, not as inclusive as WP decides it should be, and doesn’t disclose the change.

Not OK. Not OK, Not OK.

pcvip, Sure, it’s your site. You can do what you like with it. You could even roll back to the previous version if that suited you better. WordPress is built by a community of hundreds of very smart people, who freely contribute their time and skills. I think 4.2 is the best release ever, but obviously your mileage will vary. Best of luck.

very well put “agree to disagree”, Rich.

And yes, of course I could roll back, and I actually happen to be one of those people who knows how and isn’t afraid to.

I also concur : re the “hundreds of very smart volunteers” thing.

But with all of that said: as a person who “gets it”, I don’t want an outdated version of software that works by virtue of its connecetdness to the cold, cruel outside world; that’s a security hazard, by definition (not to mention I don’t want to have to look at the update notice, right?).

And it still, for me, anyway, comes back to the fact that this is a change, a REAL, functional change. And it got slipstreamed instead of announced. And that’s not OK.

    Thanks, Rich.
