Oh.. I see. It is only counting the “Like” amount and not “Shares”. I ran the post through Facebook’s debugger: (0 likes, 2 shares).

So, looks like the Share button should show the Share count instead of the like count or combine them?

Ok, I deleted one of the shares so the count is supposed to be “1” share. Shows “0” on the post.

I’m afraid we don’t have control over the counts: they come directly from Facebook, and Facebook reports 0 shares for that post at the moment:
    https://api.facebook.com/restserver.php?method=links.getStats&urls=http://blog.markheadrick.com/2015/04/23/blog-updated-to-wordpress-v4-2/

If you think it should report one share, I’d suggest reporting the bug here:
    https://developers.facebook.com/bugs/trending/

Also, when using the Icon+Text button option, the Google+ button never shows a number (if it should).

We haven’t added any sharing counts to the unofficial Google+ button yet, but that’s on our radar. You can follow our progress here:

Well, it shows 0 likes and 3 shares here: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=http%3A%2F%2Fblog.markheadrick.com%2F2015%2F04%2F23%2Fblog-updated-to-wordpress-v4-2%2F

So, it looks like Facebook’s own methods don’t even get it right.

I just now clicked “like” on my Facebook post and now it shows “1” like. I’ll make a post on the Facebook bug thing.

The Facebook team replied to my bug report and they were able to reproduce. It has been assigned.

    Hi MarkRH,

I have the exact same problem but can’t post it on Facebook. Seems that I need to be a developper. Correct?

Did they fix your issue after all?

    Thanks πŸ™‚

    Thread Starter MarkRH

    (@markrh)

No, they haven’t fixed it or anything yet.

Ok I feel that I understood what was going on at least on my blog.

Before, I was only copy/pasting the URL of my article directly on my Facebook Page. From there, when I was getting likes and or shares that would show on my Jetpack Sharer.

Although, since they changed their http to https, NOW people need to click on the share button on my blog post and then from there, people need to LIKE this share. Then I see all the likes on my Jetpack buttons. It’s twisted but anyway.

I guess if I simply share my article directly by clicking on the share button from my blog, then I should see more likes. I will do a test this we to see if that works.

As it stands now, that button will only show “likes”. So if you just copy the link or click the button, the count won’t go up since it’s a share. Someone has to actually “like” it.

So I dunno if the button should just show “likes”, “shares” or both.

Yup but that is fine since I will be getting likes from this share. I have tested it already and it works. As long as likes come from the shares it will show up.

People need to like it after sharing it and then it will show on your blog post. That’s the only way.

If you simply post the URL on your Facebook page and not using the share button first then the likes won’t show. That’s the problem that O currently have. I have dozen of likes but since it doesn’t come from the share button it’s not showing up. That’s probably because Facebook is now using https instead of http.

dunno if the button should just show “likes”, “shares” or both.

In the past it would account for Likes, Shares, and Comments. However, Facebook recently changed the way that their API counts shares. Due to this change, the current method of counting shares that Jetpack uses is not working.

We are working on a new Jetpack release that will include a new method of counting Shares. Keep an eye out for a Jetpack update in the coming few days!

    Cool.

I see what the button does now in v3.5.2. Clicking the Share button now actually registers it as a “like” and not a share and shows the count of “likes”.
