It was working fine for the first couple of months, and yesterday they released an update, I updated as usual and went to sleep

I woke up and found that ALL the buttons on my website were completely missing. Overall, the buttons were missing for over 10 hours before I could get it to work again.

You just cost a user 10 hours of earnings due to your deficient development, well done guys!

    Edit: Changed rating

Thanks for the interesting review. Sorry you had an issue with your upgrade.

Did you check out your site after you upgraded it before going to sleep? It is a version change with is usually a pretty significant change.

    Hi,

I was able to revert back to an earlier version of the plugin for the time being

I realize it was a big update, but as a developer you should warn us “Hey! This is a big update – it might cause all of your buttons to disappear” maybe on the dashboard instead of just letting it happen without an explanation and making us lose business.

And do big updates mean that all of your buttons suddenly vanish?

Anyway I am now in the process of replacing my buttons with shortcodes which I am hoping would be more reliable. This could take a while..

Also let me note that you’ve had many updates in the past, none of which caused any issues. Therefore there was no way to expect that this would happen, which is why I didn’t check my website

Hey! This is a big update!

So we actually do try to let folks know. We posted an item in the support forums and have been working extra hours helping folks get upgraded. Mostly because a lot of folks are running old versions of PHP. MaxButtons Version 3 requires PHP 5.3 in case you’re running an older version.

As for MaxButtons Version 3.0 it is a complete rewrite of the plugin. It uses a new faster database table and has been rewritten to make it much easier for us to update and and upgrade with new features.

Let us know if you run into any issues in the support forums.

    Best,

We do a lot of small updates between version changes. It’s how we make small upgrades and fix bugs. In fact you’ll probably see an update shortly where we support WordPress 4.2.

But yes, this was a big update. That’s why it’s a version change. Go into the support forums and you’ll find instructions for helping you through you upgrade issues. The new version works great and we recommend you move to it. If you have any other issues let me know and we’ll work directly with you to get you up and running. But you need to check your PHP version first.

Do you have a development server?

I will not risk re-updating it now until I have the shortcodes as the buttons will likely not show up again, but I am sure that I could find a fix for the issue but it could take some time/ Yes I have the latest PHP version but not a development server

I feel bad about giving a plugin I’ve used a lot a low rating but my website was practically dead for over 10 hours because of a bad update from your end, anyway I will see if it works after I put the shortcodes in place

    Thanks.

We’ve been spending a bit of time thinking about how the plugin notifies users that their PHP isn’t at the right level. We just released a fresh update that gives a warning notice if your PHP level below 5.3. Hopefully that will help some folks.

Send us an email at support @ maxfoundry.com please and mention your username here..

    Best,

    Bob
