Support » Plugin: W3 Total Cache » Clearing Varnish cache from Dashboard not working

  • Hi there,

I hope someone can help me. I have a website which uses Varnish caching, and clearing the Varnish cache from the W3 Total Cache dashboard worked a treat. Since we have forced the site over https, clearing the Varnish cache no longer works. The Dashboard still says that it’s been successful, however the varnish server does not get touched.

    Can anyone offer any assistance?

    Cheers!

  • Are you forcing the user side or the admin over HTTPS?

Note that Varnish does not support caching HTTPS connections. (Reference Why no SSL?)

    Hi bonnerl,

    Thanks for the response.

Varnish is happily caching the pages, I presume this is because the SSL is offloaded via haproxy before reaching the webserver, and varnish is still caching pages over port 80.

Would the fact that the WordPress Dashboard is being served over https be stopping this from working? As mentioned, when I click the button in W3 Total Cache to purge the varnish cache, I geta successful message. But the varnish server hasn’t been touched.

    Cheers,
