Creating a dating section on my site

Hi

I’ve been advised that I can use Buddypress Xprofile Custom Fields Type along with a membership plugin and profile search plugin to create a dating section on my existing website. However, I don’t even know where to begin with this… has anyone ever done anything like this and can offer examples and/or instructions on fitting it all together and making an attractive page on the site to showcase the members?
