Mysterious users

    On my “User” page I see names with the role of “Abonnent” (=subscriber) appearing every now and then. I don’t know these people and have certainly not installed them as users.
    Where do these entries come from? Is that a hack?

    Hey,

    If you allow new registrations:

    http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-allow-user-registration-on-your-wordpress-site/

    then anyone on the Internet can register.

    So likely your site already has this enabled.

    It is not a hack that people have registered if you allow people to do so, BUT hackers will try and register on sites to then try and hack a site.

    Great, I found the respective setting and unchecked it.
    Thank you very much for your help. This has been bothering me for a while, but I am not so familiar with WordPress (obviuosly 😉 ).

    Glad I could help 🙂

    You have already probably done this, but also delete any users that you don’t want to have login to the site.

    Just go to Dashboard > Users.
