Email already registered

Please help! Every time I try to update my email address on my profile in my account, it tells me the email address is already registered to another account. It is so frustrating because I need the emails to come to MY email address. I had an old account in the past but I can’t log in to it to change it. Even when I do a password request, I never get an email. I am beyond frustrated with this!

If you cannot login, you’ll need to use one of these methods:

https://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

I think the FTP method works well.

I can LOG IN just fine to the account I am currently using. I had an old account in the past that I am unable to log in to and I am assuming that the email address is being used on that account??

Sorry, but are you talking about your WP site or this site (WordPress.ORG) – the logins are not the same.

Okay, I have a newsletter that people can opt in to on my site. I had opted in to it myself. When I deleted myself as a user from the newsletter, it worked. Why is that?

If nothing else is working then you can change your email address directly in the database of your site. Just log into your cPanel, click on phpMyAdmin, choose your database from the sidebar, click on the wp_users table, find your account and finally update the email address. Hope this helps.

When I removed myself from the users of my newsletter it worked!

Now my question is, why is that?
