Support » Plugin: Customize WordPress Emails and Alerts - Better Notifications for WP » Notifications not being sent for Custom Taxonomy

    Hi Voltronik,

I work on client servicing at my office and help manage our client’s websites.

I do not know much about coding but I am familiar with WordPress. I had a requirement that when ever a new Custom Taxonomy is added the site admin should receive a notification.

I have installed your plugin and set it up (which is easy) for a test. Unfortunately I did not receive any notification after creating a new Custom Taxonomy.

I have also used the WP mail SMTP plugin to see if the notifications are going out but that did not help. I have thoroughly checked my spam mails and did not find any mails there.

Would really appreciate it if you could help me out or guide me so that we can resolve this.

    Thanks,
    Meherzad.

    Hi Meherzad,
    Thanks for your message.

The plugin should alert you of new terms for a custom taxonomy.
For example, if you have a custom taxonomy called ‘Locations’ and you want to be alerted when someone creates a new location (such as ‘Europe’) then you can set-up a notification that will alert you of when that happens.

Is this the functionality you were looking for? Or was it when the taxonomy was actually created?

    Thanks,
    Jack

    Hey Voltronik,

Wow what a fast reply!!! 🙂

The situation you have described is exactly what I am looking for. I have set up your plugin to notify me if such an event occurs but I do not receive the notification.

Let me know if I can assist you in anyway to solve this.

    Ok, thanks.

Hmm, i’ve just tested it and it doesn’t appear to work for me either. I’ll do some investigating and try and find the cause.

    Hey Voltronik,

Were you able to pinpoint and fix the issue where the notifications weren’t being sent out?

    Please let me know soon.

Thanks for all your help on this.

    Hi Meheherzad,
Not yet no. I’ve been looking but I haven’t had a lot of time the last week.

I have another update due out in a week or two so it should be fixed by then. I’ll keep you posted and will try and do it as soon as possible.

    Hey Voltronik

I use Better notification, and it have sent a message to alle users, with link to a Event that is update. I use [guid], but now it dosn´t work, what should I try ??

    Hi henning48,

Is the ‘Event’ a term from a custom taxonomy?
Do you mean that the [guid] shortcode doesn’t work or that the notification doesn’t send?

This should now be fixed in v1.1.5.1 which has just been released.

    You’re most welcome.

A little bit of feed back though.

In your future update you could think about including specific information in the notification.

for Eg.) If the custom category is Location and my site editor adds a new location : Europe, the notification should mention that “Europe” was added.

The current scenario is that the admin now knows a new location is added thanks to your plugin but he does not know which one. It would become tedious for the admin to search through the category to find the new entry.

Take care and thanks for all your help.

    Hi Meheherzad,
So it should already be possible to do this.

The plugin supports custom taxonomies (such as your ‘Location’ taxonomy) and the ‘New Term’ notification will allow you to be notified when new terms (items added to the Location taxonomy) are added.

You can then use the shortcodes to insert the information that you need.
For New Term, you can use the following shortcodes:

    Term Name: [name]
    Term Slug: [slug]
    Term Description: [description]

You can use these in the subject and message body fields of the notification.

    Does this answer your question?

    (@meheherzad)

Yes this did answer my question.

Sorry I’m not much of a coder so did not realize short codes could be used.

Thanks once again. You’re the best.

    No problem at all!

I do aim to integrate documentation into the plugin at some point but for now they’re all just listed on this page on my site: http://www.voltronik.co.uk/wordpress-plugins/better-notifications-for-wordpress-shortcodes/

    Thanks,
    Jack
