Dynamically select posts to be shown in the carousel

Hello,

In our project we have the following requisite: display featured posts of a category in a carousel in the top of the category page. We can mark a featured post with some flexibility (through a custom field or a tag, for example).

My question is if it is possible to dynamically select different posts to be shown in the carousel, according to the category I’m displaying. For example: if I’m in category “A”, only featured posts of that category “A” would be included in the carousel. If I’m in category “B”, only featured posts of that category “B” would be included, and so on.
