Well, I hate to be “that guy” who registers just to post a support question, but I’ve torn my hair out over this on my own, and I’m not getting anywhere.

I’m new to WordPress, but recently created a new self-hosted install of 2.7. I’m currently using Carrington theme, with a few plugins, widgets, etc — nothing fancy.

I thought my blog was going great until someone tried to view it in IE7.

Zero problems in Firefox or Chrome, but won’t load at all IE7.

After a partial load of the page, it throws up an “operation aborted” error and takes me to the “Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage” message.

Interestingly, I *can* load some of the sub-pages, go directly to permalinks, or list my blog posts via category, although the rendering is far from perfect. It’s just the main page that gets “operation aborted.”

I can’t for the life of me figure out what is on the main page that isn’t also on the single-post pages (widgets, plugins, etc.)

I’ve tried disabling widgets and plugins, and changing themes, to no avail.

I’ve removed my analytics code from the footer.

    Nothing seems to work.

    Any insight?

    Thanks!

  • I have no problems viewing it in IE7 (or IE8).
    However, it gives a warning:

    Webpage Script Errors

    Message: Syntax error
    Line: 533
    Char: 1
    Code: 0
    URI: http://www.absurdintellectual.com/

Ditto. Displays fine for me in IE7, but it does say you have an error in line 533 char 1.

Is this other person behind a proxy of some kind?

Thanks for the checks! I will tentatively say that the issue is resolved.

It appears to have been the Lightbox 2 plugin that I was using (v.2.0.2). That’s the only one that I still had disabled, as I had never been able to get it to work properly.

I think the problem was an improperly cleared cache, so even when the plugin was disabled, it was still affecting IE7.

Note to others with similar problems in the future: ensure you completely clear your cache!

Still tracking down the syntax error, though 🙂

I had the same problem with IE 7 and WordPress 2.7. I also deactivated Lightbox and the problem went away! Thanks for the info.
