Hello. I am using AWPCP 3.3.3 (BTW – I am using the Divi Theme by Elegant Themes)

I have inserted the random listings widget into my home page, but I am having difficulty with the widget:

The following shows the choices I make in the widget set up area. When I click “Save” the “Position of Thumbnail” options disappear (go blank as if nothing chosen). It will not allow me to save my choices. I have deleted and remade it several times without success. Please help me figure out why these options are not saving.

    Thank you for your assistance.

Number of Items to Show: 3

    Show Ad title. – checked
    Show Ad excerpt.
Show thumbnails in widget. – checked
Show “No Image” PNG when Ad has no picture (improves layout). – checked

    Position of the thumbnail (Desktop):

    Above the Ad’s text.
To the left of the Ad’s text. – checked
To the right of the Ad’s text.

    Position of the thumbnail (mobile):

Above the Ad’s text. – checked
To the left of the Ad’s text.
To the right of the Ad’s text.

    Hi Momshof,

Sounds very much like a conflict of some sort is at work. Can you please try the steps outlined in this article and report back on what you find?

Here is an article about how to test for theme and plugin conflicts with AWPCP, which may help pinpoint the issue: http://awpcp.com/forum/faq/how-to-test-for-plugintheme-conflicts/

Hi – I deactivated all plug ins and also changed my theme – neither fixed either issue.

As I was searching through the forums I can across this – do you still have the “fix” you mentioned at the bottom of the post?

    Good day,
When you select the Thumbnail position under the Random ‘Widget and save the setting, after it saved, then your setting was deselected again.

Just received updated zip file – thank you.

Did the latest version change anything here?

    (@momshof)

I followed the instructions in the email (deactivating/deleting then installing update from the email).

While the random listings widget is now working properly:

    1. the sub-categories are not showing up under search options (not in any of the search options)

    2. when I try to search using any search option – it directs me to my home page (the website’s actual home page – different from the awpcp main page)

So I tried I deleting the pages awpcp created and restoring them from the awpcp – settings – classifieds pages area. I click restore pages – it seems to be working – but no pages are created (the following is showing up above the restore pages section:

The following pages are missing, not published or the plugin can’t find them.
classifieds main page (AWPCP page): The plugin is looking for a page with ID = 270.
Show Ad (Show Ad page): The plugin is looking for a page with ID = 271.
Reply To Ad (Reply To Ad page): The plugin is looking for a page with ID = 272.
Edit Ad (Edit Ad page): The plugin is looking for a page with ID = 273.
Place Ad (Place Ad page): The plugin is looking for a page with ID = 274.
Renew Ad (Renew Ad page): The plugin is looking for a page with ID = 275.
Browse Ads (Browse Ads page): The plugin is looking for a page with ID = 276.
Browse Categories (Browse Categories page): The plugin is looking for a page with ID = 277.
Search Ads (Search Ads page): The plugin is looking for a page with ID = 278.
Payment Thank You (Payment Thank You page): The plugin is looking for a page with ID = 279.
Cancel Payment (Cancel Payment page): The plugin is looking for a page with ID = 280)

    3. So it is not creating them.

I just went to deactivate/delete the plug in I installed from the email – I was going to try installing it again. When I tried to deactivate – Instant WP said I had to log in again (like I had logged out) – when I tried to log in I have a message coming up telling me it is an invalid host name 304 – I don’t know what has happened, but I can not get to my site anymore.

    Hi Momshof,

Well, the last issue you raised sounds like you have a plugin conflict on your hands.

First, to restore your site, using FTP or SCP, go into your wp-content/plugins/ directory and delete the directory “another-wordpress-classifieds-plugin”. This operation is safe–your data will not be harmed in any way!

Next, you’ll want to go to your admin panel and then deactivate all other plugins. At that point, then try to reinstall AWPCP as you noted above. Once you get it installed, activate the plugins one at a time until you find the exact source of the conflict.

Here is an article about the details: http://awpcp.com/forum/faq/how-to-test-for-plugintheme-conflicts/

As for the pages not found issue, sounds like the plugin lost the association with the existing pages, or perhaps the pages got deleted. You need to restore them. Follow the steps in this article here: http://awpcp.com/forum/faq/i-get-404-errors-when-i-click-on-awpcp-pages-or-ads/

That should get rid of the errors in #2 above. After you do both of those, can I see a screenshot of the subcategories you’re referring to?

    Thread Starter Momshof

    (@momshof)

    Hello again.

I am still excited about awpcp – I think once these issues are ironed out – it will work great.

    1. I am trying to get the random ad widget to save the settings where the image is to the left of the text on the desktop. I received the beta plugin that was to repair the random ads widget in awpcp. i installed it and it “broke” my site – I had to completely re-create it. I re-created my site and tried again several times – it always ended up “breaking” my site (as in I could not even log into it from wp – it was like it was just gone).

I had conveyed this through email – the last response I had received before the “break” was stating I had a plugin conflict. Even when all additional plugins had been deactivated – it responds the same way.

So the easiest solution seems to be to find the random ads widget file and compare it to the latest ads widget file to see what is different in the coding that makes the latest ads widget save the image location where the random ads widget will not.

Would you please provide the correct file name that houses the random ads widget coding?

I found the latest ads file widget file:

    another-wordpress-classifieds-plugin/frontend/templates/widget-latest-ads-form.tpl.php (inactive)

But I can not find one titled for the random ads widget.

I appreciate your help locating this file.

    2. I am using the shortcode [AWPCPSHOWAD]. Before the catagories dropdown menu are the words “Ad Catagory*” – Would you please let me know in what file I can find these words so I may remove them.

    3. I am using a dark theme – I need to change the colors of the ad “boxes” which houses the ads on all pages (search page, browse page and ad page itself) and the color of the ads “wording” so they will show up properly. Would you please advise me in which files will I find that coding?

Thank you for all of your assistance,
    Momshof

I understand any changes need to be put into a new file and added under my child theme.

    Thank you.

    (@awpcp)

    Hi Momshof,

    I think there’s a misunderstanding here.

First, AWPCP doesn’t support pulling overridden files in the child theme (perhaps I don’t get what you mean by that?). If you want to change the look and feel of the plugin, the easiest way is to use custom CSS. Here is an article about how to use custom CSS with AWPCP in a way that doesn’t get overwritten on upgrade of AWPCP: http://awpcp.com/forum/faq/how-to-use-custom-styles-with-awpcp/

As for “breaking your site”–since you didn’t mention this back in email, I’m sorry that you ran into that but I need more information to understand what you mean by that? Are there errors? Did it just change the layout? Is the site down? Can you show me screenshots of the problem and post them here? (Use http://imageshack.us if you need to)

Changing text in the plugin is not recommended. Instead, you should use a translation file to override the strings so you can continue upgrading to get new features and bug fixes. Here’s how to activate that and use it: http://awpcp.com/quick-start-guide/#qs-translate

Lastly, the latest ads widget file is not the one you identified above. You want to look under frontend/ directory and there’s a widget-latest-ad.php and widget-random-ad.php. You can compare those.
