Why is my website so slow?

Hello. I’ve got myself a wordpress site I’m using for my portfolio, I no little of web design so thought it was the easiest way to go.

The site seems very slow to load and I just wondered why this may be as I thought worpress was supposed to be quick. Any advise would be much appreciated.
