That error message is referring to the Pratt theme’s functions file. Did you alter it?
If you can’t access your admin pages, you’ll need to use an FTP client (like FileZilla), or your host’s cpanel (or File Manager) and navigate to the files on the server.
In your WP installation there, find wp-content/themes
and rename the active theme’s folder to something like Pratt-hold
. That will disable the theme and hopefully allow you to get back into WP admin. WP will use a default WP theme in its place (probably Twentyfifteen).
Thanks so much, Bill!
For the FTP access do I just use the site URL and my admin login?

Edit: I’m 4 minutes too late. 😉
Looks like you’re getting and error on this file wp-content/themes/pratt/functions.php
Try this:
- Using FTP or whatever file management tools your host has provided you with navigate to the
wp-content/themes/pratt/
directory.
- Once there locate and rename the
functions.php
file functions.php-old
. Just that one file and nothing else.
- Try and re-login to your WordPress dashboard.
If that works then try and get an unmodified copy of that functions.php
file restored to that directory.
You need to use the ftp login credentials for your web hosting account. If you haven’t set up ftp with them before, now is probably a good time but you’ll need to do that through your host. Alternatively, if you can just log in to your hosting account, you can use the File Manager there in cPanel (or whatever they have for you) instead of setting up an ftp account.
Edit: @jan – I’m usually the late one 😉
@jesspress – Jan has a better shortcut for you to try once you’re in there.
Hey guys!
Thanks so much. Was able to re-access the site and admin.
Any idea how I can get back to what the site looked like before? The nav has moved below the header image and the image is a different proportion.
Thanks!
G
Nevermind – deleted the theme via FTP and then re-installed it 🙂
Good job! Please mark this one resolved if you don’t mind.
