• Hi, I followed the MAMP installation instruction at:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress_Locally_on_Your_Mac_With_MAMP

I followed the instructions and created the wordpress folder at Mac Users>username>Sites>wordpress, copied the wordpress files to it out of the zip download and then tried to use localhost:8888/wordpress to start the installation.

    Nothing happened. Error 404
    ‘Not Found
The requested URL /wordpress was not found on this server.’

Am I being a dimwit? Tried putting in the exact root directory structure as the URL (localhost:8888/Users>username>Sites>wordpress) and that still did not work.

    Thanks for any help.

  • Hi feromone,

Did you also set the ‘Document Root’ inside of MAMP?

    1. Open MAMP.
    2. Select ‘Preferences’.
    3. Under the ‘Apache’ tab, make sure the ‘Document Root’ follows the structure that you mentioned above.

Let me know if that helps.

    I agree with rwaynick.

@feromone, FYI, the default Document Root is Applications -> MAMP -> htdocs.

Hi, thanks. I had set the Apache document root as Users/username/Sites/wordpress and this makes no difference. Should I just set it to Applications>MAMP>htdocs and have done with it?

Yes, as long as the folders for the WordPress install is in the htdocs folder.

Caved in and put it in htdocs. Problem solved. So much for customisation.

    Glad to hear that!
