I’ve recently seen a massive decrease in server performance due to increased activity in wp-login.php

Looking at the All In One WP Security & Firewall generated emails, much of this activity is somebody/something trying to log in as admin. Is it possible to instantly block or redirect anybody who tries to login as “admin”? Ideally this would be done at the .htaccess level to reduce impact on server resources.
