Whoever is responsible for deciding whether or not this plugin is ready for widespread release needs to be fired. NOW.

It’s not my theme, it’s not any other plugin. I’ve attempted to update to JetPack 4.1 from a number of different themes, with other plugins installed and with just JetPack installed. No matter how I attempt this, having JetPack 4.1 installed wrecks my site. If I use a static front page, if I click to go to the page designated for my blog entries, it shows the directory index screen! WTH guys?

Oh, and to make matters worse… once I identified the problem, I kept JetPack, but just just didn’t update to the new version. Imagine my surprise when I log in today only to find IT UPDATED ITSELF! I hope to god that the recommendations here for fixing the JetPack caused problems without a complete reinstall work, because I put a LOT of time into customizing my theme and I don’t want to have to take the chance that it’s going to get screwed up when I try to re-install.

SMH. Completely worthless if you use a static front page. I may just ditch JetPack altogether and start using different plugins to cover the elements of it I liked. Google Analytics, here I come…

Sorry for all the trouble. Jetpack 3.4 indeed came with some errors that neither or team nor our beta testers detected before the release. We’re sorry about that. We’re working on improving our testing process and our Beta testing phase to avoid this from happening again. We also released 3.4.1 the following day to address these problems.

If that doesn’t solve your problems, could you tell me a bit more about this static front page issue? Could you post a link to your site here so I can have a look, or contact me via this contact form?

    Thanks!

That’s a frustrating problem. Jetpack itself can’t update automatically plugins for you unless you activate that option under Plugins > Jetpack in your WordPress.com dashboard:
    https://wordpress.com/plugins/

Did you enable automatic updates there, or do you use another plugin or service to update plugins for you? If so, it might be worth deactivating it to avoid such issues.
