    Hello,

    Great plugin!

We have a contractor who will be adding events by importing for a CSV, that we don’t want to have any other editing rights on our site. We use the User Role Manager plugin in.

What rights do we need to give the user so they can import a spreadsheet?

Would it be best to create a new user call “Event Editor” and just give them the rights that you recommend?

Thanks for the kind words. I’m stoked you’re enjoying the plugin. 🙂

Here’s a list of calendar permissions with an example of how to remove them for specific roles, if that helps: http://pastebin.com/dDzwvMqj

You may want to create a “contractor” role for this specific person, then use the Role Manager plugin to give them access to edit, read, delete and publish events and perhaps nothing else for the rest of the site. That’s the way I would suggest going about it.

    Cheers!

    Hello Geoff,

I created the role Event Contractor, with all of the rights to the “tribe” roles, and then created the user with the contractor rights. But when the contractor logs in, he does not have access to the admin panel.

I logged in as him, and I cannot figure out how to get to the admin panel.

When I logged in (as the contractor) to domain.com/wp-admin, WordPress take me to the My Account screen.

    Thanks for the help!

I’m afraid further help with customizations like this one are beyond the scope of support we can provide here on the free support forum – it’s really something where you’d need to dig in and debug your work so far.

This question has been marked as resolved, but it is not resolved.

My questions is really simple. How can I give a contractor access to add events without making him the main administrator?

Because I cannot do this, I will have to use a different event plugin. I cannot imagine that I am the first person who wants to do this.

Sadly I have to give the plugin a poor rating.

I’m sorry to hear that – but to be clear it is possible to give contractors access so they can add events – simply make them an editor or contributor.

This admittedly does not open the door for them to do everything (such as import via CSV), but then I don’t feel it generally makes sense to give them access to admin-level tools and facilities.

If it’s vital they have access to that sort of thing (ie, CSV import) then, once again, it is possible – but you’re going to have to make some customizations, whether via a role editor plugin or by some other means, and it is beyond the scope of free support here on wordpress.org to guide you through that kind of work.

I do wish we could go the extra mile for things like this but the reality is we have a huge number of free users to support and our budget only stretches so far.

I’d add that if you wish to propose a new feature, functionality or change to the way the plugin works we absolutely welcome your suggestions – please just post them here:

    http://tribe.uservoice.com

We consider each proposal seriously and this also allows others to voice their support.

    Thanks again 🙂
