    Hi

I’ve just tried to install the plugin on WordPress 4.1.1 running Twenty Twelve theme but it won’t let me activate it.

    error message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /chroot/home/futureof/futureofthebook.org.uk/html/wp-content/plugins/backupwordpress/backupwordpress.php on line 34

It’s an old site created by someone (now uncontactable) some years ago for a friend’s blog on a host who now seems to be going down. The site is still up at the moment but we don’t know for how long as the host (everythingweb.net) is not responding to any queries, tickets, email or phone.

He’s asked me for help but without access to the database, ftp or any control panel, I’m stuck and hoped your plugin could help.

Can you help with this error please.

    Thanks

    Maggie

    Hi there,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

So you’re getting this error because the version of PHP installed on your web server is incompatible with BackUpWordPress.

BackUpWordPress requires PHP version 5.3.2 or higher, so you’ll need to contact your host and ask to be upgraded to PHP 5.3.2 or later.

Let me know how you get on,

    Cheers!

    Hi Owain

    Thanks for responding so quickly.

Unfortunately this looks like another spike in the vicious circle I find myself in – I can’t contact the host because they’re not responding to anything – looks as if they’ve packed up shop. That’s why I’m in a hurry trying to download all the content before the site disappears altogether. I guess I’ll have to look for another solution.

    Regards

    Maggie

    Hey Maggie,

    Sorry to hear that.

In that case you might try downloading an older version of BackUpWordPress. You can try version 2.6.2 which you can download here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/backupwordpress/developers/

That may work on your site, allowing you to create a backup.

    Best of luck,
    Owain
