Is this what my backup files are supposed to look like?

    Âåšk¹Âl²&,;ñÆÌL8âd!ÞªúÝ=£Ã&Ù‡Íî‹ÿÓÓÌtÿ_U¿îªß][Úë£Fs,ŸÍÍõMõÞg]÷F(‹Åãõ³bñæf¼ßÔØb³ö>i¡k;Üb,Äsýêžæ}Öýÿ§£¶®öL;k¥

I ask because I don’t know whether this is what a successful backup should look like when downloaded using my hosting service cpanel.

    Thank you.

  • What Cpanel backup are you downloading?

If you downlaod a home directory backup and your database backup, then you will have everything you need.

I probably didn’t ask the question correctly. FYI the files look the same in both full and partial backups.

However, what I need to know is if my backup files content should look like what I posted above or whether they should be readable in English.

Hope this clears the question up. 🙂

are you trying to read a tar file in a text editor? Thats what that looks like to me.

No. If you download a backup, it will probably be a file with a .tar.gz extension. You will need a program like 7-zip to extract the file. If you download a full system backup, then it will contain everything you need…and a lot more.

Here is a link to 7-zip

@whooami: I think you are probably right, thanks.
@figaro: particularly since you agree:) And thanks for the link.

@both of you, I’m just trying to make sure my files are correctly backed up before taking on the upgrade to 7.2. Thanks so much for your help.

Both of understand what you are asking.
