Link Library: No Link Categories on your site
There are currently no link categories defined in your WordPress site. Link Library will not work correctly without categories. Please create at least one before trying to use Link Library and make sure each link is assigned a category.

So I get this message on activation, and I get what I need to do, but with the base WordPress link function no longer being included with WordPress, I’m not sure what I need to do in order to make this happen.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Link Library re-activates the link function in WordPress. That function is actually still part of the WordPress code, just hidden. So after activating Link Library, you will see the Links menu re-appear in the admin just a bit under Posts, where you can go in and define one or more link categories.
