hi jonwant, that’s a peculiar sounding bug, and I’m admittedly unsure what’s causing it at the moment.

Could you provide a screenshot of what you’re seeing in your post type editor screen? Do you have any other plugins or code that’s adding things to the editor screen? and if yes, can you confirm if the issue goes away when those plugins are deactivated? It’s possible there’s a php error coming from something that’s preventing the rest of the screen from showing up.

    Hi Michael

There are no other plugins that amend the editor screen as far as I’m aware.

I can provide a screenshot but not sure how to upload it here or if I can email it to you.

send it over to michael @ webdevstudios.com, please, and include a link to this forum thread so that I know what the email is related to. I’ll receive it there.

This sounds like my problem. All the custom fields created for books and films have disappeared, and both existing and new entries behave like normal posts. How do I get them back?

Jon, did you make sure the new post type has custom field support checked?

Tony, chances are all of the custom fields are safely in the database still, so there’s nothing fully lost. Why the post type you have suddenly lost the custom field support is odd though.

Could you provide more feedback of the behavior and whatnot from before? I’m not sure how to proceed with your issue at the moment without more info.

Michael, I humbly apologise, I’m being an idiot. I thought that setting the capability to “post” would set all the same things, and I was using this on an iPad and didn’t spot the in-box scroll bar to move down to further settings.

    All works fine now, sorry!

Nah, no idiot-being here. I need to work on the UI areas for that stuff too, I’ve received feedback that it’s not that intuitive on smaller screens, and may not always be obvious either.

I used Custom Post Type to create Books and Films. Books have Authors, Publishers and ISBN numbers; Films have Actors, Directors etc. Now, when trying to create a new Book item, there is no dialogue box for the Author, Publisher or ISBN; and it is the same when editing an existing entry.

Toying with the settings seems to suggest that the extra elements are there but do not display.

You can see what happens to existing entries at http://www.greenfriends.org.uk/resources/books/.

The link isn’t showing me much, so do I need to be logged in first?

The values are still going to be in the database and query-able for so the frontend display shouldn’t be affected. The metabox area in the backend editor may be though, in terms of display like you noted.

Tony are you willing to provide me a temporary account to log in with? If it’s an admin account, I could check on other things while I’m at it to see if I can find anything off.

I’ll do this privately. What is your email?
