    Hi,
on clicking on Twitter, the tweet preview is posting the H1 of the page (as well as my twitter handle and URL).

I do use twitter meta tags, eg: twitter:description, twitter:title.

Can this plugin be setup to use either those meta tags designed for twitter or any other meta on the page, such as description.
Currently my H1 tags are short and non descriptive.

FaceBook seems fine as it picks up the OG meta i have.

    thanks

  • Hi,

Which open graph plugin are you using? The mashshare free open graph add-on?

I’m using Yoast for both OG and Twitter meta.
The OG is working fine, the issue is the tweet is only picking up the H1 of the page, I would like to change that to something else, if possible using Twitter meta already on the page or meta description. Is this possible?

At the moment, its possible only with the mashshare open graph add-on.
It allows you to define the twitter share text.

Im sorry, but that isnt possible. Your Open Graph works well, but its not a useful as Yoast SEO and i dont want to have to install an add-on just to change the copy of the share.

I also can not get this or any other add-on from your site, even though it says its free, i have to put in my details to get it.. which are not free for me to give away.

thanks for your replies, but your plugin really shouldn’t have basic configuration based around having to install add-ons.

This is right, but as you say you like the Yoast SEO Open Graph more, we can not put the open graph add-on into the mashshare core. I assume you know that you can disable Yoast´s Open Graph feature and use another open graph plugin and still all other Yoast SEO features?

A possible workaround for this is to use twitter meta card feature and unlock your website for it. Its worth a test. We are currently testing this. If this is a solution we will communicate this as a solution.

    Best regards

Thanks trying to help, but I don’t think you quite get the issue.
    Open Graph is for FaceBook.
I already have the Twitter card working correctly.

What I don’t have control of is when a user clicks on the tweet button on my post. It will launch the popup and populate with
    H1 URL (via @twitterName:optional)
It’s this content I wish to control, I don’t want just the H1, but another method to add content.

Once the tweet is post then Twitter will retrieve my card, which is fine, but the tweet above the card is still as above.

I understand. This is what the mashshare open graph add-on exactly does.
Its not only an addition to embed regular open graph tags, it also allows you to change the content of the twitter button including the hashtags. This is independant from open graph tags but unfortunately connected to our OG add-on.

We ll consider to exclude this function from it and put it into core of mashshare with any of the next updates.

I am soory not to have a solution without the need to use the mashshare og add-on for now but i thank you for very much for this very useful suggestion.

    Best regards,
    René

Thanks for your reply. I’m not sure that OG should be the basis of Twitter, it does make sense to decouple this and use the Twitter card meta as your testing it already.
I can confirm it has direct benefits and users have the option to focus on Twitter and FaceBook audiences separately.

Please update this post if you have the option to change the tweet message. I am very interested in your plugin and this feature would keep me as a customer.
